Since the opening of the APM GmbH recycling center at the Teltow location in 2004, the number of customers has risen nearly fivefold, from around 12,000 to now around 55,000 customers per year. The associated amounts of waste rose in the same way and there is an ever increasing mass flow. In order to reduce the associated costs and increase traffic safety by minimizing truck traffic, technical solutions were sought on the market. We found what we were looking for at IFAT 2016, when Husmann presented their mobile roller compactor Gigant GT-M 1750 to us. This should effectively maximize container weights and be technically able to handle container changes at the recycling center. With a loaner for initial test purposes, we achieved amazing levels of compaction, which convinced us and led to the purchase of the device.
Since November 2017, the Gigant GT-M 1750 has been in use at our Teltow recycling center and has since convinced us of its effectiveness. Thus, our logistics costs and the associated use of disposal vehicles for the compacted waste and recyclable containers could be reduced by approx. 50%. Also, the possibility of maneuvering containers with the giant has a significant influence on the flexibility of the local employees. This eliminates waiting times for notified container changes and our customers always have the option of a complete disposal on the recycling yard.
